Serenity Newton recognized at Jazz Festival

The Central Jazz Band performed at the Clark Terry UNH Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 10. They performed and received commendations from several judges. 

In the evening they attended a concert by the legendary Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Before that concert, Serenity Newton, a bassist from Central, received the award of Most Valuable Player in the entire class. Serenity is a junior at Central High School, and is involved in the Jazz Band, and Orchestra. She has been selected to the 2023 NH All-State Orchestra and Jazz Festivals. Congratulations Serenity!

TKanteres

Kanteres Receives Top Musical Honors

Theo Kanteres has been selected to the 2023 All-Eastern Symphonic Band. Theo is a senior at Central High School, and is actively involved in the music program, performing in the Jazz Band, and Concert Band on tenor and baritone saxophone. He has been selected to the NH All-State Band for and Jazz Band multiple times. The All-Eastern Band comprises students from 11 states, including the New England states, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey. He will rehearse in Rochester, NY over three days in April. The experience will conclude with a concert at the prestigious Eastman Theatre on April 16, 2023. Congratulations to Theo on this great honor!

Art Students Create New Crossroads Mural

Sophomore art students (L-R: Emma Blaisdell, Mia Hall, Bozena Hrynyk, Lydia Mann not pictured: Sylive Bangasimbo) proudly display the beginnings of a new mural in the crossroads. This new art project will be ongoing and will display the flags that represent the nations from which our students hail all across the world. The mural will continue to grow and be updated as needed to be wholly inclusive of our students' backgrounds.

Senior Kellan Barbee

Senior Kellan Barbee is highlighted by NHPR and the Union Leader for his role in changing the Manchester School District dress code as a student representative on the School Board. This is the first ever student-led policy to be approved by the board. Great work, Kellan! Click here to read the newly approved policy.

Sophomore Akshay Manchanda

Sophomore Akshay Manchanda has ranked #17 out of 773 teams in DECA, Inc's North Atlantic Region Stock Market Game. The top 25 from each region will move on now to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta this coming April in the hopes of earning DECA Glass. Congratulations, Akshay!

Senior Matthew Blair

Congratulations to Senior Matthew Blair who was selected as a delegate for the United States Senate Youth program! This prestigious honor was bestowed upon only 2 students in the state of New Hampshire. Along with an intensive experience learning about the United States government, Matthew was awarded a $10,000 scholarship for this selection. Music Department Rocks Their Socks!

The Central Music Department held a fundraiser that raised over $1,500 for the program. Students sold sets of "Crazy Socks". As a community effort, each pair of socks sold resulted in a pair of socks donated to the Central Clothing Closet. Patrick DeFelice, a sophomore member of the chorus and jazz band, built shelves in the closet in completion of his Eagle Project.

Boys Hockey

Boys Hockey team volunteered with the local Boys and Girls Club to talk to young club members about social-emotional learning and coping skills through the Choose Love Movement.
