As many of you know, Elizabeth Lavoie, a Central Senior, was the state winner in the VFW-sponsored Voice of Democracy Oratorical Contest, representing NH at the national finals in DC this week. We have learned that she placed seventh in the nation, receiving an additional $4000!
Congratulations to Central's Elizabeth Lavoie who was named the State Winner in the Voice of Democracy Oratorical Contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars!
Liz was honored at a banquet on Saturday, January 21, at the Sheraton Hotel in Portsmouth, NH. Her five minute speech on "Why Veterans are Important to our Nation's History and Future" was received to thunderous applause and a standing ovation. Liz will now compete on the national level, with an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC. In addition, she will participate in a conference at Gettysburg, PA later in the spring as a guest of the VFW.
Liz joins several other Central VOD winners, current and past, who have been singled out for this honor. We are especially grateful for Manchester's VFW Post 8214 for their continued sponsorship of Central students. And we wish Liz all the best as she continues to vie in national competition.
Good luck, Liz!
