The annual CHS Amnesty Club trip to New York City was held on April 8, 2016. Students and chaperons attended a speakers forum in the morning at Cooper Union. The speakers told students about the current state of human rights in various countries around the world. They were informed about the effects of Central's letter writing campaigns. Some speakers were former prisoners who were released in part due to the efforts of Amnesty members throughout the world.
One very clear message to the students was "your efforts make a difference". In the afternoon, participants marched to various embassies and consulates around NYC. Students chanted and delivered petitions on behalf of the individuals who spoke in the morning portion of the trip. Oppressive regimes around the world do not want their actions made public. Amnesty works to shine a light where no light is shining.
