Important PSAT Information

Dear Parent/Guardian,

On October 14th we have a wonderful opportunity here in the Manchester School District.  All of our Sophomores will be taking the PSAT for FREE!  This assessment is aimed not only at helping our students become more college and career ready, but it also opens the door for our students to receive scholarships.  Research shows that scores and college going rates improve if students take the PSAT more than one time.  In order to help our students succeed, we are excited to provide this opportunity free of charge.  The data from this assessment is also very important as it will tell students and the school about academic strengths and weaknesses so that everyone knows where we can increase our focus to best assist students with their learning.

On October 14th, we will run a modified schedule for the day to accommodate the best testing environment for all Sophomores and any Junior who has signed up and paid to take the PSAT.  Fee waivers are available for Juniors who meet the criteria.   All Sophomores and test taking Juniors will arrive to school at the normal time. Buses will be running their normal schedule and we will begin the assessment at 7:45 am.  The assessment is expected to take approximately 3 hours.

For all non-testing students, we will have a delayed opening.  Buses will be doing a second pick up 3 hours later than the normal time.  Non-test taking students will arrive at Central between 10:35-10:50 am.  At that time we will run shortened, 24 minute periods with 4 minutes in between classes.  The schedule is attached with this email.

While this disruption to the schedule is not ideal, it opens doors for our students and provides them with great opportunity as we all work to help our community become more college and career ready.

Thank you,

John Vaccarezza
